The pattern: Apron dress by assembly line

Why I decided to make this pattern:

I loved the simple A-Line design with the single pleat in the back. I wanted something simple to wear that could be paired with long sleeves or sweaters underneath. Where I imagined I would wear this year round, I tend to only wear this in the winter with long sleeves and leggings. It is a very versatile addition to my wardrobe.

The Construction Instruction:

The instructions were very easy to follow. Even the pattern pieces were easy to figure out and assemble. I was excited to learn something new with this pattern. I never applied snaps before this dress. Buttons and button holes yes, but never snaps. I was definitely a convert after that. I now prefer snaps to buttons as I am absolute rubbish at button holes. I am working on it! But it is also important to mark where you want to place the snaps. I tried it on several times to make sure that it was right. It takes time, but it makes all the difference with that A-line!

The great thing about the snaps is that it makes the cute peat in the back. I think that was the most difficult thing in the whole process. But with my trusty hammer and snap tools, I was proud of the result. It really does make the whole silhouette. Even the front bib adds to the A-line. You can adjust the straps easily so the bib is where you want it. I suggest you triple check that before you make your final stitches!

I used a fabric that is a little thicker than chambray and a nice drape. It doesn’t really wrinkle easily which is perfect if you have a sit down job and all your clothes tend to wrinkle. I chose to use a lighter thread so it stands out a bit. I love to topstitch everything so I feel it really looked great in the end. I also love to use bias tape so I added that around the hem of the skirt. Just a little fun if anyone ever sees it with a gust of wind.

My Overall Thoughts:

This is one of the easiest and cutest patterns I have made. The dress is great for a coastal trip or a mountain get away. You can decide what to wear under the dress. Long sleeves, a sweater, concert T-shirt, or even a little cami. Top it off with a cardigan, a blazer, or just as is. Its a fun make and I definitely suggest you try your hand at it as well!
